Out today on ILR: THE LOWEST FORM - Personal Space LP

It's true, it really came out today. We added a bunch more awesome shit to the webstore too. Check it. We are in London playing Static Shock Weekend this weekend so shipping on these orders may be a bit slower than usual. Don't trip, we will get you taken care of.

THE LOWEST FORM - Personal Space LP w/download (LUNGS-088)

"The second album from UK hardcore engine The Lowest Form, Personal Space sees the band cutting through a comedown fug of feedback, sharp butterflyknife guitars flashing deadly over a wasteground rubble of noise.

Songs drawn up from discord, songs of marshalled cacophony, coils of scritching guitars break apart and reform, coalescing around insistent basslines and heavy drumbeats, before splintering again. It's hardcore constructed from textured noise as much as from breakdowns and riffs, rumbling infectious chants emerging from the wavering clamor, the vile keening of consciousness's half-known edges, noise in the grain of it all, noise as bedrock, an abrasive acid bath of fuzz, susurration and machinewhirr.

"SMASH MY FUCKIN' HEAD AGAINST THE WALL" is the line that opens it up, rising out of Interplanetary Bad Boy's hissing swell. Driven through the album are anguished explorations of interior/exterior limits, whirling around viciously in the grubby borders of your skull, spinning hopelessly in the cosmic of the aether, untethered, higher than the sky but way down in the muck. From Gak Attack's claustrophobic pogo or Last Smash's drawling thump to Star Slammers manic tumble and Dread Future's rolling barrage, The Lowest Form have brought together another LP of murdered-out panicattack punk, lithe and unleashed, born of bad vibes and background radiation, an album at once uncomfortably close and fully heavy." -Joe Briggs

OUT NOW: PRIVATE ROOM and LATISHIA'S SKULL DRAWING LPs.

Get 'em while they're hot.

PRIVATE ROOM - Forever And Ever LP w/ download (LUNGS-084)
Forever and Ever, the debut album from Pacific Northwest power-trio PRIVATE ROOM, is a terse and tense record. With its discordantly bent notes, shots of industrial clang, atonal noise washouts, and boneheaded punk, the album cultivates a forbidding atmosphere for the sardonic lyrics to comfortably reside. With stunning album art provided by Justin Gallego (DREAMDECAY),  the stark future-vision of PRIVATE ROOM is immediately apparent. Although a charred cynicism colors Forever and Ever,  the music itself elbows at the boundaries of whatever genre - punk, hardcore, noise-rock, or any micro-niche thereof -one might apply to it. It suggests that patterns, be they imposed from above or within, are binds to be broken.

Do any of these apply to you?
•Constant irritability
•Significantly reduced interest or feeling no pleasure in all or most activities
•Significant weight loss when not dieting, weight gain, or decrease or increase in appetite
•Insomnia or increased desire to sleep
•Fatigue or loss of energy
•Feelings of worthlessness, or excessive or inappropriate guilt
•Trouble making decisions, or trouble thinking or concentrating
•Recurrent thoughts of death or suicide, or a suicide attempt
If so, you are listening to the right record.

We put a big stack of cool ILR related things in the store too.
Shop for them in the STORE STORE STORE

Have a pleasant day. If you're in Toronto this weekend come say hi. We will be there playing drums and hocking wares and being awake way too long for our own goodsssssssssssssssgoodnight.

LACE is a band we like.

Looks like we are going to be doing an LP for Houston's LACE in the not too distant future. Writing has begun. Until then, enjoy their demo (coming soon to the ILR shop). Favorite track on this is 'Poison Drum' - you gotta love that Reggaeton beat!

Out today on ILR: WOUND MAN & INTENSIVE CARE 7"s

WOUND MAN - Rolled 7" (LUNGS-082)
Wound Man is the fevered brain child of Breathing Fire's Trevor Vaughn and continues to bulldoze in that harrowed vein. Steel heavy and nimble as a fox, with punishing blasts and wicked pounding sludge interlaced.
Recorded in New Bedford, My America on a 4 track by the man himself. Classy pocket sleeve and stickered bag house the limited blue vinyl or unlimited black. Get creepy.

INTENSIVE CARE - This Is Exactly Who You Are 7" (LUNGS-087)
INTENSIVE CARE is the phoenix from the ashes of COLUMN OF HEAVEN, a band we all loved and few understood. Bright and angry. Don't relax and think this will be any easier for you to figure. Pure bitterness, cynicism and furor here. The amount of idiocy in the world is confounding. Let this reset your barometer.
Art by Jonathan Bauerle. 500 copies on black vinyl. Thank you.

Out today on ILR: RAKTA - III LP

RAKTA - III LP w/download (LUNGS-086)
Brazil's RAKTA is back with 6 new powerfully feminine trips through the fog. Simultaneously claustrophobic and cavernous. You can feel pulsing bass and thundering battery intertwine, akin to a snake coiling around your leg, pulling you down into the murky vortex. A flourish of atmospheric keyboard and vocal clamor pulls you right back to the surface just in time to be sucker punched by silence. This garland will leave you reeling.
500 copies on blue vinyl housed in a heavy duty sleeve. Art by Mateus Mondini. Sounds by Bernardo Pacheco. Mastered by Daniel Hussayn. Thank you.

This and more are available at ironlungrecords.bigcartel.com. Thank you.

IRON LUNG - Life. Iron Lung. Death. [remastered] LP w/download (LUNGS-069)

"I may have a million ways of saying brutal, but "Life. Iron Lung. Death." has left me damn near speechless. Anyone who reads this zine (InMusicWeTrust.com) with any frequency knows that I live for IRON LUNG. In fact, I have been known to mark time by using IRON LUNG releases as reference points. Some of you may have thought me a bit daft. Some of you may have thought I "overdid" it in my praise of the band. Well, HA HA HA! Once you listen to this album, you'll see that I was RIGHT and you were WRONG! There simply aren't enough words of praise in the English language for me to adequately sing the praises of this album. Jon and Jensen have outdone themselves. Literally. Some of the moments on this are the fastest IRON LUNG have ever tackled and others are the most sludge filled. So many extreme bands seem to reach a cruising speed early in their careers and then just ride it out. IRON LUNG, by contrast, keeps pushing harder and faster each year. The band takes the momentum of the split LP with LANA DAGALES (the band's finest work until now) and cranks everything up one more notch. If you are one of the unlucky ones who have not yet learned to breathe with an IRON LUNG, then this is the perfect album to start with." -Jeb Branin 2004
Lovingly remastered and recut, housed in a high test tip-on sleeve. A classic finally available again in the proper form. 400 on black, 100 on green.

LIFE DRAG - Life Drag CS w/download (LUNGS-078)

"We have for you today a cassette offer of the new Industrial Strength American Noise band LIFE DRAG. Half dirge, half dub. Minneapolis. The New Brighton Hill Bombing Crew. Wet fucks and loose trucks. The new thing in heaven. Subterranean synapse break. Walk all night. Sleep when you're dead. Thug tunes.'
'Package includes bass, bass, synth, synth, drum machine, guitar, laundry chute and vox. Always one take, always how it needs to be. Upon physical evidence of sound we will pollute the ears of the midwest and beyond."

SCUMRAID California tour.

To say this is truly a West Coast tour would be false. Californians take note and go wild when these noise masters play near you. They will have a new tour tape with them that fucking rips. You should get it if you can. If you can't, we will do our best to get some.  Also the SCUMRAID LP is recorded but they will not have that with them because it isn't even finished being mixed yet. We hope to have that out later this year.

Some new things on the way.

DREAMDECAY - untitled 2nd LP. A more pop infused Kraut dirge Seattle sound for the classic modern age. No space, no time, no era, just genius. Out later this year.

Out on ILR today: J. GALLEGO - Wash OST LP

J. GALLEGO - Wash OST LP w/download (LUNGS-065)
This minimal synth driven soundtrack effectively captures what it's like to wander the desert at night. It's full of chance meetings and mystical events that can only be believed by experiencing them personally. A haunting midnight road trip through the imaginary cinemascape of Wash, a motion picture spectacle by J. Gallego. You may know that name because he is the main force behind DREAMDECAY whose album we released last year (and is available again now). Don't be afraid to think of Mica Levy (Under The Skin) or Rob (Maniac [2012]) or even Susan Justin's Forbidden World when you hear Wash.
"Man, this is really cool! Right up my alley. I kind of feel like I want to listen to this when I go camping next weekend, but at the same time I feel like it's way too freaky for that. When track 4 kicked in the dog got real spooked and tried to lick the speaker and then stared it for several minutes." -J. Robinson
Wash comes packaged in a custom diecut jacket with a full color inner sleeve inside. All on black vinyl. A one time pressing of 500 copies.

Also back is an orangy gold vinyl version of White Glove Test. What a month.

GAG - America's Greatest Hits LP w/download (LUNGS-075)
Destined to be the most famous of all the bands. At least in their vision of the future that is. We like them. You like them. Why not? Go big or fuck off.
Trippy violence and snake charms drenched in delay and fuel this wild, ugly, mid-tempo hardcore punk vehicle. All the way across the salt. For 180 days. Crew up and get down with America’s greatest.
700 copies on black vinyl, 300 on something else, housed in a heavy duty sleeve adorned with Scott Young’s perfect artwork. Recorded by Nudity’s own Capt. Tripps in Olympia, WA.

BEHAVIOR - 375 Images of Angels LP w/download (LUNGS-074)
John Cage related this anecdote: “One evening I was walking along Hollywood Boulevard, nothing much to do. I stopped and looked in the window of a stationary shop. A mechanized pen was suspended in space in such a way that, as a mechanized roll of paper passed by it, the pen went through the motions of the same penmanship exercises I had learned as a child in the third grade. Centrally placed in the window was an advertisement explaining the mechanical reasons for the perfection of the operation of the suspended mechanical pen. I was fascinated, for everything was going wrong. The pen was tearing the paper to shreds and splattering ink all over the window and on the advertisement, which, nevertheless, remained legible.”
This little musing somehow rhymes with the spirit of BEHAVIOR’s '375 Images of Angels,' unique “musical” approach to punk. The very essence of punk is a contemptuous “fuck you” to convention anyway, or at least a troubled groping for new avenues of self creation. There is a simple beauty in deconstruction, in calculated naivety, in messes, in processes and in the plain night air of Los Angeles. '…Angels' dances like a dog shaking off a swim. '...Angels' is as deliberate as it is free. Don’t we all want this dichotomy in our lives? The drive to make our time our own and the permission to chase joy?

GAUCHO - Desplazados 7" w/download (LUNGS-072)
The darkness and hate of living in the modern day is inescapable. People will always try to control you, force their ideologies on you and bind you with their ridiculous laws. Sooner or later you will get tired and hit back. And if true passion is there, you will succeed. It is hard not to hear the passion on this record. Gaucho delivers a Colombia-via-Canada raw hardcore pogo march to the death of tyrants far and wide. Members of S.H.I.T. give us a 5 song window into the struggle for a higher quality of life and we thank them for that.

and last but not least

WILKINSON/KORTLAND - One Scythe Fits All OST 7" w/download (LUNGS-073)
The highest fidelity lo-fi synth driven soundtrack written and recorded by PIG HEART TRANSPLANT partners in crime, Greg Wilkinson and Jon Kortland. To say it's heavy and creepy is a no brainer. Are there slight moments of comic relief? Of course, it's a horror movie, duh. In true 80's slasher style there a small bits of dialogue between scintillating score tracks. Imagine listening to a mashup of Black Devil Doll From Hell (Chester N. Turner) and The Fog (John Carpenter) and you start to get an idea of the sounds happening here. Would you swim in a a pool where a dead body was found? We would, and we would listen to this while we were doing it.
300 copies on red and black splatter vinyl housed in a beautiful full color pocket sleeve with merch insert. Art: Amy Browne. Photos: Karoline Collins. Directed: Dionne Stevens & Maya Messoriano.

2015 Top Ten plus however many more because I can do whatever I want.

 photo f51e167b-68f1-4289-935d-9352ea52300d_zpshiner1x1.jpg

The punks (and lesser types) never let me down when it comes to genre busting and general freekiness. There have been so many big things this year. Thankfully, a pigeon hole is not one of them. Life moves quick and changes even quicker so you have to pick your battles more carefully than ever. I suppose you could stumble through and be fine but the quality that comes with living that way is absurd and lacking. I choose the fringe. I choose passion. Even more, I choose the records that the passionate fringe produces.

Records are crazy expensive to make and to buy now but there is something magical about having that tangible artifact from your personal journey. Records rule okay? Buy them. But buy the good ones, the real ones, not those insipid Record Store Day reissues or major label avarice platters. Besides, with streaming and downloading being so easy, we don’t have spend all our dough building a huge vinyl collection just to hear our favorite tunes on a repeat basis.

Gathering new music these days can be like listening to that mystery mixtape the weird stranger kid leaves at the record shop randomly offering his accumulated tastes on anyone willing enough to listen. Hearing MARTIN DENNY’s ‘Misirlou’ next to JAMES GANG following JANKY and PATRICK FITZGERALD is not that uncommon any more. I fucking love that. I mean, it does take some curating but still the diversity these days is invigorating to say the least.
